2000	A collaborative scheme between Swarkestone Sailing Club and the Rotary Club of Derby South brought Sailabilty, a project of the Royal Yachting Association to South Derbyshire. This brings the opportunity of sailing to disabled people in the local area. The project was formally opened at Swarkestone Sailing Club on 25 June 2000 when members of the Derby South Rotary Club and the Swarkestone Sailing Club joined together to thank the sponsors and donors who made this project possible. The project has cost £72,000.00. Half of the funding ( some £30,000.00 )was been raised by the two Clubs acting together by fund-raising and sponsorship and the remainder provided by grants from South Derbyshire District Council ( £8,000.00 ) and the National Lottery ( £ 35,000.00 ) A fleet of 9 sailing boats specially adapted to the needs of disable people have been purchased and additional facilities and equipment provided at the Sailing Club to ensure the safety of all participants. .
