WELCOME TO THE NEW ROTARY YEAR 2009-2010 . |
|
Welcome to Rotary International in
Great Britain and Ireland, an organisation of more than 55,000 men and
women who, as members of over 1,850 Rotary clubs, volunteer their time,
talents, professional skills and energy to improving the lives of people
in their local communities and others around the world.
As a member of a Rotary club, you have the opportunity to give something back, to give hope to those less fortunate and to make lives worthwhile and fulfilled. If you are interested in joining Rotary, please click here - How to join Rotary.
The enormous sense of achievement you'll experience doing something really worthwhile will be matched only by the enormous amount of fun you'll have! You'll be working, socialising and networking with like-minded people who have the same interests and aims as you - so teamwork is important. You'll make firm friends as well as worthwhile business contacts; you'll learn valuable new skills and grow as a person; and you'll be sure of a warm welcome from other Rotarians around the world whenever you're on your travels. As a Rotarian, there's a vast array of things you can get involved in, from organising events and competitions, supporting local charities and developing young people, to assisting with disaster relief and even eradicating diseases such as polio worldwide.

At a Gala
Charity Dinner and Dance evening held at the Toyota Suite , Pride Park
Stadium on 28 February 2009 attended by over 200 members and guests the
Rotary Club of Derby South raised in excess of £11,500.00 for the
Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and the Brenton
Carey Hostel in Karachi The
Air Ambulance is the selected Charity for 2009 of the Club President
Rotarian Irfan Wahedna whilst support for the Benton Carey Hostel in
Karachi is a joint project between the Rotary Club of Derby South
and the Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium where the sister
in law of President Irfan is a member. The
hostel was founded by Miss Carey, a C.M.S. missionary in the nineteenth
century. The
hostel for girls is most important, as girls are vulnerable in the
Karachi society and especially open to abuse if left on their own from
an early age. They are often put to work at the age of four, sometimes
to beg for a sponsor on the streets. The
girls live in two dormitories, sixty in each with one washbasin and
lavatory at either end! Although
the conditions are cramped and inadequate the girls, ranging from five
to fifteen years, are always beautifully turned out and the older ones
care for the younger ones. |
